Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu
Meeting at airport on arrival by our staff and transfer to the hotel. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, lies in a broad valley at the edge of the Himalayan Range. Its art and architecture are an interesting blend of Hindu and Buddhist influences.
Day 2: In Kathmandu
Explore the fascinating city of Kathmandu, with its temples and markets, or take an optional excursion into the Kathmandu Valley.
Day 3: Fly to Lukla (2840m) & Trek to Phakding (2600 m / 4 hours)
Morning the spectacular mountain flight to the tiny airstrip at Lukla. Here we will meet with our porters and commence the trek with a short walk to Phakding.
Day 4: Phakding / Namche Bazaar (3440 m / 5 hours)
A flat walk along the Dudh Kosi river and we climb steeply climb to Namche Bazaar (3,440m). The most important Sherpa town and a former trading center with Tibet.
Day 5: Namche Bazaar acclimatisation day
Today is an acclimatization day. Namche Bazaar is well worth exploring, with its Buddhist monastery and distant views of Everest. For better acclimatization it is recommended that you walk to the Syangboche or to one of the nearby villages such as Khunde, or Thamo.
Day 6: Namche Bazaar / Tengboche (3880 m / 6 hours)
After rest day we set off trekking again. Within an hour the towering summit of Ama Dablam appears to the east, while glimpses of Everest lure us onwards. The gentle trail crosses the Dudh Kosi river at Phuki Tenga where we start the long climb up to Tengboche.
Day 7: Tengboche / Dingboche (4260 m / 5 hours)
We descend to the Dudh Kosi river through rhododendron forests. If you are trekking in the spring you may see the rhododendron forests in bloom. We continue to Pangboche village where the monastery once held a possible yeti scalp, apparently stolen a few years back. You soon find yourself above the tree line you will pass a few tea shops and yak herders before you reach Dingboche a beautiful patchwork of fields enclosed by stone walls.
Day 8: Rest day at Dingboche
Here you will enjoy outstanding mountain views, particularly the north face of Ama Dablam and Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. There are several walk options enabling your body to acclimatize better.
Day 9: Dingboche / Lobuche (4930 m / 5 hours)
Leaving Dingboche, we head over dry grazing lands, climbing gradually to Dughla. The surrounding stony wastes are the terminal moraines of the mighty Khumbu glacier, which we climb over to reach Lobuche a cluster of shepherds’ huts and tea houses.
Day 10: Lobuche / Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep (5160m)
You will ascend gently to begin with today through lovely pasture lands; then follow the rocky moraine path with views of the Khumbu Glacier. Gorakshep is on a flat field below Kala Pattar (5545m) and Mt. Pumori (7145m). Continue 2 - 3 hours walk, to the Everest Base Camp & back to Gorakshep for overnight.
Day 11: Gorakshep / Kala Pattar (5545 m) - Pheriche (4243m)
Sunrise from the top of Kala Pattar is quite spectacular, it is a hard climb of one or two hours but you can see the West face of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and more. Returning to Periche, the windy town, there is a Himalayan Rescue Association Aid Post should anybody need assistance staffed by International volunteer doctors?
Day 12: Periche / Tengboche (3880 m – 4 hours)
This morning you may be interested to visit the Nagkartshang gompa before descending to Tengboche a journey of around 4 hours.
Day 13: Tengboche / Namche Bazaar (3440 m – 4 hours)
Mostly downhill today, there is a steep climb for about an hour before you encounter the scenic walk back into Namche. From Khumjung you can pass through Khunde where you may enjoy a visit to the little monastery if you haven’t already.
Day 14: Namche Bazaar / Lukla (2886 m – 4 hours)
Today descending steeply for the first on to Phakding and finally to Lukla. This evening you will have a farewell ceremony with your guides and porters.
Day 15: Fly Lukla / Kathmandu
Fly to Kathmandu Weather-permitting, we fly from the tiny mountain airstrip back to Kathmandu, with a last chance to glimpse the mighty snowcapped Himalaya in the distance.
Day 16: In Kathmandu
Free in Kathmandu A chance to do some shopping, explore at leisure or merely relax by the hotel.
Day 17: Depart Kathmandu
Transfer to airport to board the flight for onward journey.
